What are some things that could be causing hypertension/high blood pressure?

I am curious if anyone knows what kinds of things can cause high blood pressure, even temporary. I’ve heard of sleep deprivation causing it, but it doesnt seem like not getting enough sleep could cause you to have a real blood pressure problem. Could caffeine or soda consumption affect your blood pressure?

Smoking, caffeine, not sleeping enough, tension (eg. if you have an exam, an important commitment), stress, obesity (but this is not temporary). There are some condition to the kidney that make blood pression high, but they are dangerous and should be treated immediately.

There are a number of contributing factors to high blood pressure, but the most important can be summarised in two: lack of exercise and obesity. Having a diet high in sodium (salt) is another factor that can increse your BP considerably.
If you think you have high BP I suggest you consider the DASH diet (Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension). It seems that this is the most effective diet to reduce BP considerably.
Some other contributing factors to high BP are caffeine, lack of sleep, streess, alcohol and even excess of noise.
