Can faintness and dizziness be a result of hypertension (high blood pressure)?
February 20th, 2008 | by Pressurized |4given/NOtW asked:
I often have days where I just cannot move. I feel out of breath and extremely tired. My doctor is not sure if I have hypertension because I do not have a family history, nor am I overweight and I am fairly young. She wants to be sure before putting me on meds. She thinks I may have “white coat syndrome”. This is when people become nervous when seeing a doctor.

when i was pregnant i fainted a lot.the doctors said it was because of either high/low blood sugar levels, dehydration,or something with the heart.so they hooked me up to a monitor to watch my heart rate for like 15-20 minutes.then when they found it was not my heart they told me to eat plenty of protein in the morning and drink plenty of fluids.they never found they exact reason why and it was during 2 of my pregnancies, and after.

Hi Slickrai, While hypertension can indeed cause those symptoms, so can hypotension (low blood pressure) However the breathlessness is a bit out of the ordinary. Have you had a blood test to see if you are anaemic? This is very common in females. The tiredness and breathlessness together would point more to that than hypertension to be honest.\since the red blood cells carry oxygen in your blood, anaemia (lack of red blood cells) would prevent the amount of oxygen your body needs from getting to vital organs. Try pressing hard on your thunb or fingernail, when you let go it will be pale, but the pink colour should return immediately. If it takes longer than a second or two, the chances are that you are anaemic. Also, look at your conjunctival sac(Inside lower eye lid) and see if it is a nice healthy pink/red or if it is very pale. This also is an indication. If your problem is anaemia it is easily rectified by a course of iron tablets. Take care and good luck. Love Mel.
