Is there any scientific evidence that points to a correlation between eating spicy foods and hypertension?

Query is in reference to the thesis that a regular spicy diet would either lower, or elevate high blood pressure and eventually cause hypertension.

I’ve never heard that. Though some cultures eating spicy foods may tend to eat fatter other foods like fried beans, whatever or in the case of India they eat very spicy but are lean people usually. They say spicy foods are good for arthritis and pain. I haven’t heard anything else.
