I had hypertension when I was pregnant and was wondering how long before it goes away?

I had her 6 months ago and my blood pressure is still pretty high. Before my pregnancy, my blood pressure was low. I also had gestational diabetes if that makes any difference.

I hope you are being monitored by a good Doc because pregnancy induced hypertension should have gone away within 48 hours of delivery just like the diabetes did. You should be having your blood pressure checked on a regular basis and after this length of time you might need some meds to get it down.

I was sick with hypertension for almost 2 years after I had my daughter BUT my doctors said that that was the exception and NOT the rule! Did you by any chance have Magnesium while you were delivering? If so, the symptoms of hypertension may be extended by even a bigger date! Hang on it does get better!

My best wishes to you and your baby, YOU have to get both under control because both are dangerous to have because it can cause all kinds of other health issues. (Heart disease, stroke). You need to get your doctor to check your blood levels and put you on a low sodium, low fat diet. If your blood pressure is still high after 6 months than maybe those diets just mentioned would help.

I had PIH with my baby I delivered 3 weeks ago. The high BP is supposed to go away after a few hours/days. I think you should speak with your doctor about this.
