please do transcendental meditation.
it can replace the drugs you are taking.

It sounds more like you have serious hypertension.
Don’t let anyone tell you are on too much medication, if your blood pressure is controlled.
A lot of people need a bigger regiment, depending on how high of a blood pressure elevation people have.
The african american population have a gene that actually resists certain HTN medications, and they need a regiment similar to yours.

Transcendental meditation can relax the body technically, but it is harmful and dangerous to a person.

i have hypertension and take veralin 300mg a day + a duiretic ( water pill).
the important thing here is it controlling your hypertension? and how you are feeling on it. if you are concerned i would call the doctor and talk with him about it.

does not sound like too much medication… I like the calcium channel blocker family of meds for hypertension….like verapramil XR. Check and see if Toprol is in that family of meds…..

I take Micardis HCT 80/25mg and two 81mg coated aspirins per day, along with 4 other meds (one for cholesterol).
Spouse takes two meds, including Toprol (can’t remember the other one), as well as a diuretic. He’s been on them 6-7 yrs. (He takes 8-9 meds/day, but the rest aren’t heart-related.)
So no, I don’t think the 3 meds are too much. I think it’s quite “the norm” for hypertension.
Do what you need to do to stay as healthy as you can. Eating the right foods (in the right quantities) and exercise are important in fighting heart disease. However, heart disease and cholesterol are genetic issues as well, and sometimes eating right and exercising aren’t enough to keep us from having these issues.
That’s where medication comes in. The cholesterol med I take (Vytorin 10/40mg) works on both types of cholesterol… genetic and food-related.
But although I try to eat right and exercise, and I’ve lost 50 of 80 lbs in the last 4-1/2 mos, heart disease is prevalent in my family and I’m genetically suseptible. So, I take the meds as well, and monitor my blood pressure daily to try and stay one step ahead.

I was first put on a water pill and, when that didn’t reduce my bp, I was prescribed Lisinopril. That gave me a nasty cough as a side effect so I am on Atenolol, 10 mg, plus the 25mg diuretic. I haven’t had my bp checked since I started the Atenolol last month. My bp on the lisinopril was 160/68. The 68 was good, the 160 not. The Dr is hoping the Atenolol will bring it down.

After having a stent put in I was put on Toprol for high blood pressure. I was told I would have to stay on it from now on even tho the pressure in not always elevated.
