Looking for protein in the urine.

They have to check your urine for protein levels. Hypertension is a sign of pre-eclampsia and if there’s protein in your urine as well, then there’s a potential problem.

They need to monitor protein the urine because if the levels are high or start to go up then its a sign of pre-eclampsia a very dangerous condition for both mother and child. If they only took samples for 8 hours then increase wouldnt be detected. 24hours will show how the levels fluctuate during the day to see any patterns with relation to eating etc.

if you have any concerns or questions, you should speak directly with your doctor. and if you still dont understand have him/her explain it til you do. make them work for thier money. they charge you for 15 minutes and spend like 3 minutes with you after you have waited for 45 minutes. if you ask me that just doesnt add up. anyway, thats why they are there.

They need to collect the urine for 24 hours to get a generalized idea of how high of a precentage of protein can be found in your urine. Hyertension is a sign of preclampsia and to diagnose preclampsia you must reach a certain amount of urine. Also, hypertension can just SUDDENLY turn to precalmpsia which can be fatal to mom and baby if not treated.
If you are less then 35 weeks you may want to begin reading about premature babies. Just in case. Hypertension does turn into preclampsia, it is just a matter of WHEN.
